DO
YOU HAVE AN AVERSION TO CHANGE?
Part
One – A
Change
for the Better
As I write this I have to snicker at the word change. It appears that presidents, especially our present one, have used this word in order to make it appear they will do something incredibly wonderful for our country like peace, prosperity, lower taxes and so on. However, the change I am referring to has little to do with presidents. This change is related to individuals, especially ones who say they know and love the Lord. Let me explain…
What if you were working as a teller in a bank for 20 years cashing checks for people and then one day, out of the blue, your boss came up and stated you could no longer do this. And, he also told you that if you did, he would fire you on the spot. What would you think? Shock? Disbelief? “This is what I have always done,” you’re thinking in dismay. “Why is he changing his mind?”
Good question. But this is exactly what I am trying to show you. We are treating God this way. We are saying that He has “changed” everything He stated from the beginning. We say he has made a new foundation. And, we must follow this new way or be punished.
Yet, who has been the one(s) who has really changed what God said? And, possibly I should say, do we realize that changes have been made that affect you and me in a very serious way? Let me explain further…
Many of us just go through life, sorry to say, without thinking things through.
Doing this sets us up for failure, like the Scriptures say, “One who doesn't think believes every word, but the cautious understands his steps.” (Proverbs 14:15) Most of us are taking everything for granted as though it was meant to be that way. We are not cautious.
For example: If the produce manager of a grocery store tells me I am allowed to purchase only two lemons, do I say, “Well, okay.” So, I purchase my lemons and walk away. Shouldn’t I question him as to why there is this new law, or is there a possibility that lemons are scarce, or the latest order didn’t come in and more weren’t expected for awhile? Now, lemons and God are a far-piece from each other, but here is the point--why do we accept what we are told, not even questioning anything in our mind much less the one telling us about the “change”?
After being a born-again Believer since 1976, I have found that change has been a huge burden to me, as many of you who have read my story on www.kitchen2.com can attest to. The Lord has taught me on numerous occasions the importance of flexibility and change, but there are a few areas where He emphatically desires that I not change.
Ladies, I will attempt to share these with you in some short articles; and, I hope you will be able to stay with me and check out what I am saying. Remember: “Happiness is being a Berean.” (Acts 17:11) Please feel free to ask questions, make statements, yell at me, agree or disagree. I am open to your thoughts in this area. I can be reached at kathie@kitchen2.com Please feel free to pass these on.
